Why would they have such a message? Most of us cannot read it. This is very offensive to me, being a word that has inspired much killing and sadness in the world.

I cannot believe that this obvious declaration of hatred can be tolerated, but this is Canada and the West, who have tolerated themselves into a corner and don’t know how to get out. Grow a pair, that’s how. Get rid of the sign, discover who is responsible, make them accountable, don’t accept the crap about this is our religion and you can’t do anything about it. Grow a pair.

I agree… It’s about high time we take that strong stance against these bullies from spreading their poisons here. Every little detail, regardless of how insignificant it might appear…should NEITHER be taken lightly nor taken for granted.

If they feel they get away with this… they elevate to that (I know, sounds crazy right? But, isn’t this the same stuff the kids would do in testing our breaking points as Mom & Dad?)

Believe me, I’ve gone through my own share of personal stresses & nonsense at the hands of my own family & others simply because I foolishly let it slide… We must as a respectfully united City & Region, stand up and tell them together that behaviour like this will not stand or be accepted.

Please spread the word to all your friends & loved ones to both strengthen & re-enforce our messages & resolve to assure that nothing such as this can ever happen again.

Tarek Fatah is a shameless ass-kisser. He does everything to gain attention and approval of xenophobes in power. This is not a battle-cry neither is it used by any terrorists. It is a motivational slogan which means “With help from Allah, the success is close”. It is used to motivate oneself when one feels stuck in a struggle whether it’s work, education or anything else that needs a bit of encouragement.

Dear Haider, I am so glad you have demonstrated the etiquette of the Islamists that taken to its logical extreme is most visible in the camps of Al-Nusra jihadis of Syria.

As far as the inscription on the mall is concerned, the name of the verse itself is a straight giveaway of its war-like message. Its called “The Battle Array”.

The mural, at the west end of Toronto’s Little India on Gerrard Street, has verse 13 of the Qur’an’s chapter 61 “Al-Saff” (The Battle Array) painted in tasteful Arabic calligraphy.

It reads: “Help from Allah (is near) and a speedy victory (is assured).”

These same words were once inscribed on the handles of Islamic swords and are today sung as Islamic battle songs by Jihadis.

You might have heard of Ibn Kathir, the 14th century Islamic scholar and the recognized authority on the Quran. Ibn Kathir says in the verse “The Battle Array”, Muslims are told that if they are willing to sacrifice their lives and possessions in the service of Allah, then not only will they find Paradise after death, but the conquest they desire over their enemy will be theirs very soon after they confront the enemy.

Another contemporary Islamic scholar, Mufti Muhammad Shafi in his nine-volume “Comprehensive commentary on Holy Qur’an”, had this to say about this verse.

“There is one blessing that will be granted (by Allah) in this world. Which is the Divine help and imminent victory, that is conquests of enemy territories. If the word Qarib (near) is the opposite of Hereafter, it would include all later Islamic conquests of Arab and non-Arab territories.”

So much for suggesting this slogan is merely read when trying to pass a driving test for the H1 licence. Not.

        Mr Tarek Fatah.

Ever heard about context? Of course this verse has been used by jihadis! Every single religion in the world has been used by bloody warmongers, the number 1 being of course the Catholic religion. Religion is not about what’s in the book but about what people are doing with it. The vast majority of Muslims are peaceful people, and it’s especially the case in Canada. You perfectly well know that the interpretation given by Haider is very likely the good one. Of course there is a possibility that this inscription is indeed jihad related but you’ll have to prove it! I think the best way would be to conduct a study among Arabic speaking Muslims in Toronto and ask them what their interpretation is. It would be more efficient than to circulate a petition among ignorant angry old white people who learned their islamophobia from the Tea Party. Otherwise you might as well start circulating a petition to suppress our National Anthem that says “car ton bras sait porter l’epee, il sait porter la Croix” A sentence that’ according to your “logic” could have been borrowed from the crusades playbook.

I was raised to greet every person as a friend. It has become very difficult to do so in this climate we live in. I remember in 1997 when the Canadian family had a last farewell for my mother in a catholic church. Some of my friends, well-known leaders in the community, honoured my mother with their presence. Among them was a Muslim and a Hindu. It is possible, the question is: “are we willing?”
